The eve of a major championship is always alive with anticipation and excitement, but the \u201824 PGA has the protentional for all-time greatness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may be the most highly talented field ever assembled for a golf championship, when you consider Tiger\u2019s 15 majors, Phil with 6, Brooks Koepka at 5, Rory at 4, and Jordan Spieth with 3\u2014a total of 33 major championships between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For perspective, the 1963 PGA Championship included Ben Hogan with 9 majors, Sam Snead and Arnie with 7 each, while Gary Player had won 3 majors at that point and Jack 2 (the \u201963 PGA was Jack\u2019s third major)\u201428 total majors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the 2024 PGA includes future Hall of Famers Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler&#8211;each with 2 major championships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-1024x564.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1177\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.8156028368794326;width:295px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-1024x564.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-768x423.jpg 768w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-1536x847.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-2048x1129.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-270x149.jpg 270w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-24x13.jpg 24w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-36x20.jpg 36w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Tiger-and-Phil-48x26.jpg 48w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Tiger and Phil (21 Majors Between Them)<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And although the odds are pretty long that Tiger or Phil will be among the leaders on Sunday, it won\u2019t be for lack of will\u2014and watching them battle once again to turn back the hands of time will make for memorable viewing (and hopefully they will both be teeing it up on the weekend).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The big show without doubt, however, will be Scottie Scheffler&#8211;and if anybody can take him down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scottie\u2019s Run<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With victories at The Masters and The Players, and 9 Top-10\u2019s without missing a cut in his first 10 starts, <a href=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/pga-tour-2024-scottie-schefflers-historic-run\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Scheffler is off to the hottest start on the PGA Tour since 1960<\/mark><\/a> (including Tiger in 2000 and Jack in 1963).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of that, Scottie\u2019s momentum has reached a crescendo coming into the PGA, with 4 wins and a runner-up in his last 5 starts. Koepka lives for major championships, so don\u2019t expect him to take a dive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>McIlroy<\/strong>: It\u2019s been ten years since Rory won his last major championship, but it was The PGA and it was at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valhallagolfclub.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.valhallagolfclub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Valhalla<\/mark><\/a>. And although Rory was the invisible man in his first 8 starts of 2024, he\u2019s posted a win in each of his last 2 (including a heavyweight performance at Quail Hollow last week). At 29 years old, Rahm is just now coming into his prime\u2014look for him to rebound from the lackluster Masters performance and put some heat on Scheffler as he goes for major number 3.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Schauffele: <\/strong>Xander is having a heck of a 2024 season with 8 Top-10\u2019s in 12 starts, and he hasn\u2019t missed a cut in two years\u2014but somehow that first major championship has eluded him. Always a great ball striker, Schauffele has made vast improvement from the tee (currently 6<sup>th<\/sup> in Total Driving) and stands at No. 2 behind Scheffler in scoring average. It\u2019s just a matter of time before he breaks through at a major, and remember that Phil didn\u2019t win his first until he was 33.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"223\" height=\"167\" src=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Ludvig-Aberg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5660\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.3353293413173652;width:216px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Ludvig Aberg: PGA Tour Phenom<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Notables<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty-four-year-old Ludwig Aberg is going to be a major force on the PGA Tour for another decade and more, currently standing at No. 3 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/2024-pga-tour-power-rankings-through-wells-fargo\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Tour Power Rankings<\/mark><\/a> with 5 Top-10\u2019s in 10 starts, including a runner-up at The Masters. He bombs it from the tee and sticks his irons like Miller, but the putter has been holding him back\u2014if the short stick heats up look for Ludwig toward the top of the leaderboard late on Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joaquin Niemann is the young star on the LIV circuit, and he\u2019ll be flying under the radar with Koepka and Rahm grabbing most of the attention\u2014but he has 2 wins and leads the<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"> <\/mark><a href=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/liv-player-rankings-through-singapore-may-8-2024\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">LIV Power Rankings<\/mark><\/a> by a pretty wide margin.
