It\u2019s particularly galling when you have a good round going and suddenly hit a wall, losing your rhythm and gradually stiffening up like a board (especially if you\u2019re a little older like me).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I can\u2019t count the number of course reviews I\u2019ve read saying \u201cgreat track, but the round took forever so it turned out to be a lousy day,\u201d and suddenly a 4-star review turns into 2 or 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Often the review will bemoan the lack of a marshal on the course, but should we really need course police to keep things moving?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18 holes of golf shouldn\u2019t take more than 4 \u00bd hours\u2014here are a few suggestions that will help everybody get a whole lot more enjoyment from a day at the course:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What Courses can do:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><em>Strive for 10 minutes between tee times.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Keep pin positions more centrally located on greens, and not close to steep fall-offs.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Maintain rough at a reasonable depth.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Provide proper number of rakes for bunker size.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Provide adequate signage.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Keep course clear of debris (particularly in the Fall)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Employ marshals.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/course-listings\/golf-course-ratings.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"682\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SlowPlay-2_GettyImages-73471204.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4855\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.33203125;width:456px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SlowPlay-2_GettyImages-73471204.jpg 682w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SlowPlay-2_GettyImages-73471204-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/SlowPlay-2_GettyImages-73471204-270x203.jpg 270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What golfers can do:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><em>Select the correct set of tees for your experience level.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Begin preparing for your shot as you approach your ball, and commit to the shot you decide to play (and limit your practice swings).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Watch your shot until it lands, making a mental note of line and distance with reference points.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Pay attention to the other members of your group when they are hitting so you can help locate their ball. <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Limit your search for lost balls to a minute or two\u2014and have a spare ball in your pocket.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If you are in a bunker, grab the rake while you are waiting to hit. <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Once you\u2019re on the green, begin lining up your putt as other players are making their putts.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Mark your score when you arrive at the next set of tees, not while you\u2019re standing on the green.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If you start to fall behind, play Ready Golf (meaning, in the order of who is ready&#8211; not who is away.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Never allow a hole ahead to open up.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Be mindful of the players behind, and allow faster groups to play through.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Swing tips are great, but save lessons for the Driving Range. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/course-listings\/Course-Listings.html?Access=Public&amp;Limit=5&amp;SortBy=Distance,rating&amp;ListByRating=true&amp;Type=Page&amp;PageType=Listings&amp;Loc=Now&amp;Radius=100&amp;NearMe=true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"45\" src=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TopCoursesNearYou4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4872\" srcset=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TopCoursesNearYou4.png 300w, https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TopCoursesNearYou4-270x41.png 270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:54px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/golfday.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Tips-to-Speed-Up-Play.pdf\"><span style=\"color: blue;\"><strong>Tips to Speed Up Play<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As every golfer has experienced now and again, standing around on the tee box while waiting to hit is absolutely no fun.
